Watchmac 1.2 Released
2008-11-25
Today bloo7 released version 1.2 of Watchmac, the most sophisticated surveillance and alarm system for your Mac.
First and foremost, the update to version 1.2 delivers a new architecture that will allow third-party developers to extend Watchmac in the future. Besides this important but mostly invisible change, however, Watchmac also adds some features users of previous versions will instantly notice: The Watchmac dashboard has been redesigned and you can now filter and search the infringement history.
Security is also improved further: You will now be prompted to enter your password when trying to quit Watchmac while it is locked. This will prevent perpetrators from turning off Watchmac this way. Version 1.2 also adds a stealth mode that makes Watchmac completely invisible. When stealth mode is enabled, Watchmac will neither show in the Dock nor in the menu bar.
See the release notes for more details on what has changed in version 1.2 Watchmac.

To ease the waiting, here’s some two screenshots from Watchmac 1.2 (scheduled to be out by the end of november).
As you can see, the Watchmac user interface has been refined for this new release:
What probably isn’t obvious from the pictures, is that Watchmac 1.2 will introduce a plug-in API that allows Watchmac’s infringement detection and reaction capabilities to be extended. This API will be published for third-party developers after release. Currently 85 % of the features of version 1.1 have been ported to this new API.
